What is Yucca?
Yucca is the common name for
the more than 40 species of perennials in the Yucca genus.
The plants are well known for their tough, sword-like leaves
and a large spike of whitish flowers. They are native to the
hot and dry parts of North America, Central America, and the
West Indies.

Benefits
Yucca has been used to treat a
wide variety of conditions that cause pain and inflammation,
including chronic headache, and arthritis.
Yucca is may treat gout, is thought to promote normal
digestion and liver function. It is important to watch the
dosage, too much yucca saponins may cause diarrhea.
Yucca has been used also to
treat skin conditions, such as skin cancer, and to promote
the healing of wounds. Yucca may help reduce headache, may
help cardiovascular health by improving circulation and
lowering blood pressure, triglyceride levels and
cholesterol. Side Effects
In general, saponins may cause
dose-dependent gastrointestinal distress, especially in raw
plant form. Safety in pregnant and breast-feeding women has
not been established. Injected directly into the
bloodstream, saponins can cause hemolysis. |
